Dorothy retired as a cafeteria manager with Greeneville City Schools. She was a member of Greeneville Cumberland Presbyterian Church and had been for many, many years. She attended church until her health prevented it. When her health prohibited her from going to the service, she would receive each week that previous Sunday’s sermon by disc.
Dorothy was married to Albert Walker when she was 18 years old. Albert was the love of her life and it was difficult for her when he passed in 2018. When Albert died, he and Dorothy had been married for 62 years. Albert and Dorothy loved to travel with Greene Coach. They visited all 50 continental states, as well as Hawaii. Unfortunately, they never made it to Alaska.
Dorothy accomplished many things in her lifetime, but according to those around her, her husband and children were her number one priority. She was both a good wife and a good mother. In their many years together, Albert and Dot got to the point where they could finish each other’s sentences. Albert was not very talkative, but Dorothy made up for it as she was a very sociable lady. Where one was lacking, the other made up for it. They were best friends.
Those who truly knew Dorothy, knew what a stickler she could be, making sure that their home was immaculate at all times. Family would tease her about being able to eat off her kitchen floor as it was always spotless.
Survivors include her daughter, Debbie Walker, who was a very devoted caregiver as Dorothy’s health began to decline; Tabitha Walker, a granddaughter; Noah and Myla Walker, great grandchildren; Nina Bowers, sister-in-law’; Vance and Madge Walker brother-in-law and sister-in-law; and several nieces and nephews. It is important to point out that Dorothy was the last living member of a family of 11 children. She is also survived by 2 very special friends, Shirley Hartman and Joy Blankenship.
She is preceded in death by her spouse, Albert Walker; her son, David Walker; 10 siblings; a grandson, Cecil Walker; and parents, Elizabeth and David Bowers.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 11, at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home in Greeneville. Visitation will be from 11am to 1pm, and the funeral service will follow immediately after the visitation. Interment will take place at GreeneLawn Memory Gardens.
