Mr. Bird retired from the Greene County Highway Department after 15 years of service.
He was a member of River Hill United Methodist Church and the Sunnyside Volunteer Fire Department for over 30 years.
Survivors include his wife: Joyce Franklin Bird; a brother and sister-in-law: Steven and Minnie Bell Bird; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Wanda Lee and Bobby Wilhoit, JoAnn Humphreys, and Mary June Broyles of Greeneville, and Helen and Clyde Jones of Knoxville; his sisters-in-law: Dorothy Bird, Reba Bird, and Beulah Bird of Greeneville, Peggy and Alan Broyles of Mosheim, Marcella Franklin of Talbott, and Shirley Kite of Morristown; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend: Edward Johnston of Greeneville
He was a son of the late John Willis and Della Mae Broyles Bird and was preceded in death by four brothers: Samuel Bird, Fred Bird, Doyle Bird and Alonzo Bird; and a sister: Maxine Cooter.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Saturday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.
The funeral service will follow visitation at 7 o'clock in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Martha Beamer will officiate.
A committal service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in River Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Sammy Lynn Bird, Bobby Bird, Doyle Edward Bird, Eugene Wilhoit, Alan Broyles, Bobby Kite, Randall Wilhoit, Jeff Bird, and Allen Bird.
Honorary pallbearers will be the members of River Hill United Methodist Church, the members of Sunnyside Volunteer Fire Department, the employees of Greene County Highway Department, the staff of Laughlin Memorial Hospital, and the staff of Meadowview Center of Kingsport
