He retired as Vice Principal of South Greene in 2001.
Survivors include his wife and best friend of 20 years: Rhonda Jean Hensley; daughter: Kelly Hipps White; son: Kevin Hipps; very special grandson: Nickolai Paul White, whom he adored; aunt: Shirley Darnell; uncles: Robert Hensley and Barney and Eliza Hensley; several cousins, who were more like siblings to him: Prescilla Freeman, Pam Walters, Danny Hensley, Ricky and Marty Darnell, Dean and Mickey Hensley, Jeannie Fanning, Jan Ricker, and Jill Duncan; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Marion and Teresa Price, David and Rebecca Mitchell, Stevie and Phyllis Mitchell; and his sister-in-law: Patricia Tittle.
He was preceded in death by his parents: James and Rose Hensley; and his grandparents: Cleovis and Zora Hensley and the Rev. Joe and Daisy Brown.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.
Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jerry Hopson, Wayne Erwin, and David Thompson officiating.
Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Shelton Mission Cemetery. It is requested that family and friends meet at the funeral home by 1:00 p.m. Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery.
His pallbearers will include his son, Kevin Hipps, along with Marty Darnell, Danny Hensley, Gene Norton, Robbie Shelton, Rickey Darnell, Jeff Johnson, and Mickey Hensley.
His honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Brad Strange, Dr. Scott Jay, Dr. Steven Flohr, Dr. Patel and nurses, 4th floor nurses of Laughlin Memorial Hospital, Caris Hospice, Charles Hopson, Mark and Tina Shuffler, Harley and Amanda Shuffler, Jimmy McAmis, James Belt, Roy Weems, Wayne Erwin, Johnny Reaves, and all of his fellow horse barn and horse show buddies.
