He was a member of Oven Creek United Methodist Church.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law: William D. “Bill” and Larna Smith of Johnson City; five special grandchildren: Maggie Lynn Fair, Hannah Bea Fair, and Nicholas Lee Fair of Johnson City, and Tim Wright and Brian Wright of Greeneville; and several nieces and nephews.
Charlie was born November 11, 1920 in Cocke County, Tennessee. He was a son of the late William Clark and Lucy Pearl Robeson Smith.
He worked as an automobile mechanic in Cocke County and 18 years for Bewley Chevrolet in Greeneville. In 1989, he retired from the Greeneville-Greene County Health Department and spent his retirement years as a part-time farmer.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and papaw. His many relatives and friends were a special part of his life.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Lucille Moore Smith on March 15, 1992; one sister: Velma Lorraine Smith; and two brothers: Buford Walter Smith and Max Hogan Smith.
The body is at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday and between the hours of 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. and after the committal service at the home of Mr. Smith on Snapps Ferry Road.
The funeral service will be held at 8:00 p.m. Saturday, February 26, in Kiser-Rose Hill Chapel with Rev. Tim Wright and Rev. Hubert Metcalf officiating.
Interment will follow at 1:00 p.m. Sunday at Oven Creek United Methodist Cemetery.
The pallbearers are Hannah Fair, Nick Fair, Brian Wright, Wayne Rader, Ron Rader, Larry Robeson, and Troy Fox.
