He retired from Magnavox and was also an employee of Morristown Chevrolet.
Mr. Shipley was a member of the Russellville Church of God family.
He was a volunteer at Durham Hensley Care and Rehabilitation.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years: Winifred “Win” Shipley; two sons and daughters-in-law: Doug and Teresa Shipley of Afton and Mike and Debbie Shipley of Mohawk; grandchildren: Christy Carter and husband Chris, April Grindstaff and husband Chad, and Dennis Shipley; great grandchildren: Ethan and Ryland Grindstaff and Abby and Ally Carter; three sisters and two brothers-in-law: Violet Bailey of Mosheim, Joan and Chester Schroer of Tusculum, and Brenda and Edward Reed of Greeneville; brother: Tommy Shipley of Chuckey; brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Brenda and Ralph Bowers of Chuckey; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the son of the late Charlie and Lura Miller Shipley.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held at 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 3 in Kiser-Rose Hill Chapel with Rev. Roger Rigney, Rev. William Gardner, and Rev. Ray Pratt officiating.
Interment will follow at 11a.m. Friday at Pleasant Vale Cemetery with Rev. Richard Bowers officiating. It is requested that family and friends meet at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Stan Bailey, David Bailey, Nick Bailey, Tim Shipley, Ronnie Miller, and Jerry Self.
Honorary pallbearers will be R.L. Lakins, Anthony Lakins, his friends at Cross Anchor Gospel Singing, and numerous other friends and neighbors.
