He was a machinist by trade and a member of Old Tabernacle Church of God.
He loved to fix anything. If it could be fixed, he could do it!
During World War II, he worked with the Army Corps of Engineers and started building the Alaska Highway after the attack on Dutch Harbor. He built roads and was a mechanic in the army.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife: Maxine E. Roe Johnson; daughter: Sandra K. Reed of Conover, North Carolina; sister: Naomi Johnson of Johnson City; grandchildren: Terry Johnson of Australia, Dwayne Johnson, James Johnson and Keith Johnson of Greeneville, Josiah Reed of Conover, North Carolina, Micah Reed of Claremont, North Carolina, Jeremy Reed of Haines, Alaska, and Sarah Reed of Conover, North Carolina; and several great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and one great-great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law: Paul and Thelma Johnson.
The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home preceding the funeral service at 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Wayne Riddle and Rev. George Davis will officiate.
Interment will follow at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Andrew Johnson National Cemetery. It is requested that family and friends meet at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home to go in procession to the committal service. The Greene County Honor Guard and the Tennessee National Guard will conduct a military graveside service.
His pallbearers will be his grandchildren and great grandchilren.
