She was a school teacher in the Greene County School System.
She was a 1979 Graduate of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, where she earned her teaching and counselor degree. She began her teaching career at South Greene High School and later transferred to Mosheim as a Guidance Counselor.
After a 31-year career and health concerns, she retired in the fall of 2011. She was involved with the annual parenting fair and a loyal member of the Tennessee Education Association.
Carolyn was a member of Faith Temple Church and was strong in her faith with Christ.
Survivors include her brother and sister-in-law: James David and Sylvanne “Sunny” Johnson of Dumfries, Virginia; two nephews and their wives: Andrew David and Jenna Johnson of Springfield, Virginia, and James McMurray and Stephanie Johnson of Bristow, Virginia; great niece: Elizabeth “Ella” Johnson of Virginia; two great nephews: McMurray “Mac” Johnson and Logan Stewart Johnson of Virginia; special aunt: Mable Key; her second family of first cousins: Teresa Key, Mitzi Gass, Darrell Key, Amy Crum and her daughter, Shasta Crum; numerous students; and other special friends include: Lawrence and Patricia Jersey and their family, Martha Stewart, Frankie Ricker, and Bob Frost
She was the daughter of the late Fotch and Minnie Johnson.
The family will receive friends 4-8 p.m. Monday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home preceding the funeral service at 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel Rev. Tommy Collins will officiate.
Interment will follow at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Cross Anchor Cemetery.
Her honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Michael Hartsell, Jackie Jones, Jerry Jones, Brian Stewart, Guidance Counselors of the Greene County School System, and Teachers and Staff of Mosheim Elementary and Middle School.
It is requested that family and friends meet at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Tuesday for the committal service.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family has requested that monetary donations be made to the Greeneville/Greene County United Way, 115 Academy Street, Greeneville, TN 37743 for support of the Children’s Advocacy Center or to the Cross Anchor Cemetery Association Trust Fund, Attention: Lynn Foshee, 29 Lobo Loop, Greeneville, TN 37745.
