He served as Greene County Extension Leader for many years and retired as Assistant District Supervisor of District 3 in Chattanooga. After his retirement from the University of Tennessee, he worked as an Agricultural Representative for Andrew Johnson Bank.
Mr. Hunter was a member of First Baptist Church.
He was a member of the Greeneville Exchange Club, National County Agents Association, and Institute of Agriculture Retired Employees. He was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a Mason. He was a World War II Army Veteran with the 82nd Airborne and a Korean War Veteran. He received his B.S. and M.S. Degrees from the University of Tennessee. He was actively involved in the local Food Bank as long as his health permitted.
Mr. Hunter is survived by a son and daughter-in-law: Phil and Stella Hunter of Greeneville; two grandsons: Matthew Hunter and wife Hannah of Rogersville and Ben Hunter and fiancé Stevi King of Greeneville; three great grandchildren: Morgan and Noah Hunter and Ande Kate King; several nieces and nephews of Claiborne County; and a special caregiver: Gwen Bible.
He was the son of the late Pryor and Ollie Lambert Hunter and was preceded in death by his wife: Lois Hunter; two brothers: Chester and Clayton Hunter; and one sister: Genese Pierce
The family will receive friends 1-3 and 5-7 p.m. Friday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.
There will be a service conducted by the Order of The Eastern Star at 6:45 p.m. Friday prior to the funeral service at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Charles Hutchins will officiate.
Interment will follow at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Hunter Cemetery in Speedwell, Tennessee.
His pallbearers will be Fred Sorrells, James Smith, Craig Ogle, Buddy Yonz, Steve Hale, Mark Williams, and Dr. Michael W. Bible.
The nurses and staff of Life Care Center of Greeneville, the nurses and staff of Wellington Place, friends of Nanci Lane and West Town Court Apartments, and Larry Trevathan will all serve as honorary pallbearers.
