Andre “Andy” Lionel Chaloux, 90, of Concord Place Memory Care Center in Knoxville died on December 26, 2024. Andy was born in Lewiston Maine and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Textile Engineering at New Bedford Institute of Textiles and Technology in Massachusetts. He was involved in textile manufacturing much of his career and worked as an industrial engineer, production manager, plant manager and vice-president. His career took him to Canada, Maine, New York and eventually Tennessee. He came to Greeneville in 1976 as a plant manager for the former Huyck- Formex plant (later known as Weavex).
Andy was an active and civic minded community member wherever he lived. He was a member of Notre Dame Catholic Church where he served in leadership roles including the Parish Council and the Finance Committee. He was a long-term member of the Knights of Columbus including a past Grand Knight. While living in Maine, Andy served as a president of Kiwanis and continued as an active Kiwanian after relocating to Greeneville. Andy was a long-standing member and Past President of the Board of Directors for the YMCA of Greene County. He was proud to have served on the construction committee in one of the largest fund-raising campaigns in the community’s history leading to the opening in 2007 of the current YMCA facility. Andy served on the Board of Directors for the Community Ministries for many years, including the role of Board Chair. He was instrumental in the expansion of the current Food Bank building in 2004. Andy was an active member of Link Hills Country Club where he served on the Board of Directors including a term as President.
Andy’s hobbies included sports of all sorts. He especially enjoyed golf, tennis, and walking. He would often engage competitively with all his five children and nine grandchildren even into his senior years. He also followed and supported the activities of all the kids. Andy was an avid golfer with many impressive accomplishments. One year he logged over three hundred rounds of golf. In 2013, the Greeneville Sun featured an article when Andy reached the milestone of one hundred times shooting his age or better on the golf course. At the age of 87 Andy shot a hole in one at Andrew Johnson Golf Club while playing a round of golf with some of his children, earning a lifetime membership at the club and breaking a Greene County record.
Andy was a devoted husband to his wife Rita for 68 years. He was also a dedicated father to all of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren showing kindness and support throughout their lives.
Survivors include his five children, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. His children are Patricia and Bill Sanborn of Buxton, Maine, Debra Chaloux and husband Steve Pinette of Scarborough, Maine, Susan and Mike Arwood of Greeneville, Tennessee, Tom and Trish Chaloux and Jeff and Cyndi Chaloux of Knoxville. Survivors also include his grandchildren and their children; John Sanborn of Saco, Maine, Ryan Sanborn of Jackson Heights, New York, Nicole Chaloux Pinette, her husband Dan Murphy and their daughters Camille and Margot of Boston, Massachusetts, Dr. Emma Chaloux Pinette and fiancé Olu Adeosun of Baltimore, Maryland, Casey Arwood and son Levi of Greeneville, Tennessee, Anna (Chaloux) Calfee and husband Brandon of Smyrna, Georgia, Alex Chaloux and wife Katie and children Jake, Isabelle and Andre of Alcoa, Tennessee, Paige (Chaloux) Jones of Clinton, Tennessee, Spencer and Amanda Chaloux of Florence, Kentucky. Survivors also include a brother Marcel Chaloux of Lewiston, Maine and sister Irene Boucher of Brunswick, Maine.
Andy was preceded in death by his mother Leona Gastonguay Chaloux, his father Andre L. Chaloux, his sister Claire Chaloux Bradford, brother Paul Chaloux and most recently his wife Rita (Asselin) Chaloux.
The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to everyone at Concord Place Memory Care Community in Knoxville. The loving care and extended family Andy found there provided contentment in his final three years.
The family will receive friends 10:00-11:00am on January 20, 2024, at Notre Dame Catholic Church. The funeral mass will follow at 11:00 AM. Interment will then be held at GreeneLawn Memory Gardens.
