Richard was born on August 21, 1923 and grew up in Fillmore the son of George and Hazel (Garrett) Owen.
Having many boyhood jobs of mowing lawns for .10 cents a yard, baling hay, shucking corn with his mentor, Marion Sears, he enjoyed the outdoors. His adult employment began at the Greencastle Zinc Mill, Stewart Warner’s, and Bridgeport Brass in Indianapolis, retiring from there after 35 years.
He was a member of the Greencastle Masonic Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife of 67 years, Jeanne (Cummings) Owen, an infant brother Owen, and his brother, Robert to WWII, a sister, Madonna, and son-in-law, Marc Hood.
Survivors are his daughters, Linda Owen and Deb Meadows, granddaughter and care-giver, Ashley Entwistle, grandson, Owen Hobein, great grandchildren, Alaina and A.J. Nunez, and future grandson-in-law, James Mitchell.
Masonic Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, July 7, 2014 followed by Funeral Services at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at the Forest Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until time of service on Monday at the funeral home.
