Obituary of Oscar Lowell Flint
Lowell Flint, 91, joined God’s heavenly choir on Saturday, June 14. He was born in Greencastle on October 8, 1922 to Raymond and Ivyl Ferrand Flint. He graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1940. While serving in the Army in the European theater during World War II, he married Vera Smith on September 13, 1943. Following the war he worked as a machinist at Allison’s in Indianapolis. He later worked at P.R. Mallory and Heartland Automotive in Greencastle. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty years, Vera, on April 6, 2004. Surviving are his daughter Diane, Greencastle; son Steven (Cindy), Avon; daughter-in-law Michele, Greencastle; and grandchildren Katie, Greencastle, and Joe (Kristine), Evansville. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother Burl, brother-in-law and sister Russell and Dorothy Day, and other relatives. Lowell was a 62-year-member of the Greencastle First Baptist Church serving as deacon, trustee, teacher, youth leader, superintendent, and choir member during his active years there. He was also a 32nd degree Mason. “Uncle Ole” loved, and was loved by, children. He also enjoyed singing in the Judsonaires quartet with Joyce and Gary Hanlon, and David Bombei. He loved participating in the church choir and singing occasional solos. A celebration of Lowell’s life will be on Wednesday, June 18 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church with visitation at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 17 from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at Brick Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Gideon’s International or the First Baptist Church’s capital improvements fund.
