John Everett McKee

John Everett McKee, 91 of Greencastle passed away on July 23, 2017 at Putnam County Hospital.
John was born on February 7, 1926 in Danville, Indiana to Gladys and Sherman McKee Sr. He was one of six children: Francis McKee, (deceased), Sherman McKee, Jr., Doris Mae McKee, (deceased), Inabelle Wolsted, and Alice Pritchett.
John proudly served in the United States Army, and was stationed in Japan during WWII; after his service ended he went to work for his brother Sherman, at his Allis Chalmers Business in Greencastle. He then went to work for IBM and retired from there.
John married Elizabeth (Betty) Helton on October 9, 1949 and they had two sons: Mark E. McKee, (wife-Carolyn Walton), and Maurice L. McKee, (wife-Terri Sutherlin). They had four granddaughters: Catharine Simmerman (husband-Ryan), Megan J. Crimmins, (husband-Will), Deborah McKee, and Joanna Goldman, (husband-Hank), one grandson: John E. W. McKee (wife-Kyla). They had eight great grandchildren: Jacob, Sarah, Max and Abby, Simmerman; Liam and Ellie Crimmins, and Zayne and Averie McKee. They have nieces: Marie, Stephanie, Andrea, (deceased), Lana, Jackie, Janet, Jane, and Holly; nephews, Sherman III, Larry, Don and Tom; cousins: Diana, Gary and David and Jan and Jay in Florida.
Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home with Pastor Wesley Kendall officiating. Burial will follow in Boone-Hutcheson Cemetery. Friends may call at Hopkins-Rector from 11:00 a.m. until time of service on Wednesday.
In Lieu of flowers memorials may directed to Presbyterian Church Program SAWS, P.O. Box 512 Greencastle, Indiana 46135 for building ramps for the disabled: of which John has helped for 8 years, or to your favorite charity.
