Dr. Hugh Edwin Glock passed away on Monday evening, September 6th, 2021 after a long battle with Parkinson disease. He was born April, 25th 1938 in Fort Wayne, IN to Catherine and Maurice Glock. A graduate of Fort Wayne North Side High School (1956), Earlham College (BA, 1960 with honors) and Indiana University School of Medicine (MD, 1964).
Dr. Glock served a rotating internship and general surgery residency at Akron General Hospital from 1964 - 1969. He served as a Major in the United States Air Force from 1969 - 1971. He joined Greencastle Surgical Associates in 1971 and practiced general surgery in Greencastle from then until his retirement in 2003. He was a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the Indiana State Medical Society, the American Medical Association, and the Putnam County Medical Society. He was on the staff of Putnam County Hospital from 1971 until his retirement serving as Chief of Surgery and two terms as Chief of Staff. He was a member of the American Legion. He was also a member of Windy Hill Country Club.
Hugh was a lifetime learner who loved to read. He also enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing, skiing and SCUBA diving. He held an instrument rating on his pilot’s license and frequently flew his plane around the country. Hugh always had a joke and a kind word to offer. Often described as the “life of the party,” Hugh entertained with the guitar and banjo.
While in college, Hugh met his first wife Anne Headley. They were married December 20th, 1959 and had 2 children, Catherine and Brad. On November 1st, 1989 he married Karen Hendricks. They would have been married for 32 years in November.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Karen, his daughter Catherine Bashore (Mark) of Madison, OH, and his son Brad Glock (Joan) of Bartlesville, OK, and 6 grandchildren, Ellen, Joe, Meredith, Jimmy, Mae and Matthew. He is also survived by his stepchildren Darin Hendricks (Kara), Michelle Modlin (Jeff), Ryan Hendricks (Lindsey) and 7 step grandchildren Ian, Keegan, Sidney, Makenna, Samantha, Seth and Hattie. Though his legal residence was in Florida, he maintained a property in Putnam County and lived here part of the year.
Visitation will be at Bittles & Hurt Funeral Home Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 11:00 am with services to follow at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery.
