Betty was born in Greencastle on April 3, 1931, the daughter of George F. and Effie Inis (Reed) Sims, and was a 1949 graduate of Greencastle High School.
Mrs. Foxx worked for 15 years as a receptionist at several residence halls for DePauw University. She also worked for General Telephone Company for 8 ½ years. Betty was a 50 year member of Merry Jills Extension Homemakers Club serving four of those years as a State District Representative, a founding member of Sherwood Christion Church, Hospital Guild, and Progress History Club.
Survivors include her four children, Marcia Boswell, (David), Timothy Foxx, (Patti), Karen Wallace, and Melissa Ellison, (John); four grandchildren, Kenny Foxx, Heather Foxx, (Alex Riddle), Heidi Dotson, (Hezekiah), and Hannah Ellison; three great-grandchildren, Stella Rose Dotson, Emmett Reid Dotson, and Ezra James Dotson; three step-grandchildren; nine step-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Merle “Peanut” Foxx; her infant daughter, Teresa Foxx; a son-in-law, Bruce Wallace; and eight brothers and sisters, Floyd, Marvin, Paul, Frank, and Maurice Sims, Geneva Dimitroff, Frieda Finney, and Norma Albin.
Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 8, 2023, at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Staggers officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until time of service on Friday.
