William L. Penton, born on March 17, 1943, in Wray, Colorado, bid farewell to this world on April 16, 2024. He was a man of extraordinary talent and boundless creativity. Preceded in death by his loving parents and a beloved baby boy, he leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished forever.
Renowned for his potential even in his youth, William was voted “most likely to succeed” during his high school years. He pursued higher education at Kearney State College before embarking on a journey of service with the United States Army. In 1968, he found a new home in the picturesque landscapes of Colorado.
A master craftsman and a true Renaissance soul, William found joy in the art of muzzleloading and the camaraderie of rendezvous. His ingenuity knew no bounds, as he possessed the remarkable ability to fashion anything from bows and arrows to intricate firearms, automotive components and musical instruments. A stalwart employee, he dedicated years of service to US West before retiring in 1993.
However, William’s true passion lay in music. With the gentle strum of his banjo, the melodic chords of his guitar, and the soulful tunes of his harmonica, violin and organ, he painted symphonies that resonated with all who had the privilege of listening. He was a master Luthier.
He is survived by his loving children, William Penton of Wauneta, Nebraska, Edwin Penton of Emory, Texas, and Kellie Moyer of Seward, Nebraska, and step son, Christopher Gordon of Mead, Colorado. His grandchildren, William Penton, Ezra Moyer, Elias Moyer, Estaphon (Chasity) Hoffmaster, Jared Penton, and Ryan Penton, great-grandchildren, Maliyah Hoffmaster, Silas Hoffmaster, and Desmond Hoffmaster will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
Alongside his devoted brother, Gaylord, and his wife, Joyce Penton, and his wife, Barbara Penton, William leaves behind a tapestry of love and memories that will endure through generations.
In the twilight of his years, William L. Penton’s spirit will forever echo through the melodies of his music and the legacy of his craftsmanship. May he rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the symphony of his everlasting legacy.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 22, 2024 at Stoddard Funeral Home, 3205 West 28th Street, Greeley. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with military honors.
