Wayne grew up in the Greeley area, graduating from Greeley Central High School in 1982. After high school, he worked in food service and call centers. He worked in the probation department at the 8th Judicial District in Fort Collins after he graduated from Front Range Community College in Westminster.
On September 4, 1988 he married Dori (Ruybal) Benavides in Greeley.
Wayne joined the “50’s Club” after he turned 50 and was initiated.
Wayne had a passion for theater and had a colorful imagination. He enjoyed cooking, eating, fishing, painting and drawing. He also enjoyed music, doing karaoke and would have liked to have been a member of The Temptations. He loved to debate any subject. He also loved visiting the ocean and the casinos in New Mexico. Wayne was an avid Seahawks fan.
Wayne was a very funny man and loved practical jokes. He loved to help people and would help about anyone in need. He was very close to his cousin, Isaac Medina and brother-in-law, Dale Ruybal. He was also there for his mother and father and was a very good son. Above all, was his love for his family, especially his children and grandchildren.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Dori; two daughters, Marielena Jean Ruybal (Gabriel Cortez) of La Salle and Angelica Saralee Benavides (Jose Mendoza) of Sterling; two sons, Juan Peralta Benavides of Northglenn and Andres Augustine Benavides of ChampionsGate, Florida; parents, Billie and Del Benavides of Evans; sister, Joy Romero of Ft. Collins; brother, Butch Benavides (Nonnie) of Greeley; three grandchildren, Angel Ruybal, Jesus Ruybal and Kolima Cortez; aunt, Patricia Benavides (Daniel Archuleta) of Hale Center, Texas; uncle, Steve Benavides of Evans and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by several aunts.
A Celebration of Wayne’s Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 24, 2017 at Journey Christian Church, 4754 West 31st Street, Greeley.
