Wanda Jo Phillips Stewart, 77, of Greeley, passed away Sunday, June 2, 2019 at her home. She was born January 25, 1942 in Memphis, TX to Lacy and Margie (Mohota) Phillips. She grew up in the Methodist faith and spent most of those years in Plainview, TX. Her son Ricky kept her close to Jesus in her final days. Those who knew her best and loved her most called her Joey, Mom, Mother and Nanny.
Wanda worked as owner, manager and caregiver at TLC Adult Care. She had previously worked for Hospice and at a Denver hospital. Her last eight years, she battled Alzheimer's. She lived with her daughter Rejeana who walked with her through her Alzheimer's battle. But, she never forgot any member of her large, wonderful family.
Joey adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cherishing each one. She loved her puppies, mostly Chihuahuas. She treasured planting flowers and invested bunches of time with Rebecca, Robin and Rhonda doing so. Those three daughters also loved shopping with her, especially at Goodwill. Camping with family was also a passion. Joey’s best friends in life were Barbara Martin, Helen Hernandez and Mary Stevens. She was very gifted at ceramics and loved square-dancing.
Joey had a wonderful sense of humor, only occasionally spicing it up with the language of a sailor. Her favorite past-times were large family get-togethers, especially around holidays. On TV, she was fascinated with documentaries on serial killers. And, she had great compassion and love for people.
Wanda is survived by her 5 children, Rejeana Martin of Greeley, Ricky Martin (Shirley) of Ft. Morgan, Rebecca Hallatt (Rick) of Martinsville, IN, Robin Stanley (Billy) of Ft. Lupton and Rhonda Furney (Kevin) of Johnstown; there are 16 grandchildren—Rickey, Charles & James Espinoza, Reggie, Carissa, Willie & Hailey Martin, Ronnie, Lacey, Stacey, Joie Hallatt & Zachary Furney, Michael Sparling, Stevie Laughlin, Ronny & Shawn Stanley, and also 41 great-grandchildren.
In Joey’s final days, she hungered to see her Grandparents, her Mother and Daddy, and her sister Jeanette. About 10 minutes before she passed, she had a peaceful, glorious look, as Jeanette took her hand and led her to Heaven.
