W. West Foster

W. West Foster, 81, of Greeley, passed away Monday, November 14, 2022. He was born in Fredericksburg, Virginia to Clayton H. and Jane B. Foster and grew up in the surrounding area. West graduated from Christchurch Preparatory School near Saluda, Virginia.

West attended Colorado State University, where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and remained close to many of his fraternity brothers. West graduated in 1964 with a degree in General Business. He enrolled in the ROTC program at CSU where he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant into the United States Army upon graduation.

While stationed in Alaska, West met Carolyn Jean Burns; they were married in 1966 and had two daughters Valerie and Courtney. After the tour of duty in the U.S. Army, he was honorably discharged in Alaska at the rank of Captain. West entered graduate school at CSU and earned a Master's Degree in Regional Economics.

West obtained his real estate broker’s license and gained an interest in the real estate appraisal business, achieving the MAI designation in 1979. He then started Foster Valuation Company in 1981 and shortly thereafter married Sue Anne Lehan in 1985.

West was active on a national level with the Appraisal Institute for over 25 years, serving on the National Board of Directors, and as National Chair of the Ethics and Counseling Committee. West was also a contributor to the official text of the Appraisal Institute.

West had a love for the outdoors be it hunting, fishing, hiking, or sailing. He was a member of the Beebe Draw Gun Club and the Sanger Ranch Fishing Club. West had the great fortune to fly fish in places like New Zealand, Canada, Alaska, Montana, Idaho, Chile, and Argentina.

West also served on the Greeley Planning Commission, was a member of Centennial Rotary Club, International Right of Way Association, and served on the Board of Directors of 1st Choice Bank.

Surviving are his wife Sue Anne Foster; children Valerie (Jeff) Pontiff of Chestnut Hill, MA, Courtney (Jon) Anaya of Greeley, CO, step children, Mark (Alicia) Lehan of Berthoud, CO, Lauri (Greg) Milano of Littleton, CO, and Steve (Lisbeth) Lehan of Niwot, CO, and eight cherished grandchildren.

A public visitation will be held on December 7th, 2022 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Allnutt Funeral Service Macy Chapel, 6521 W. 20th Street, Greeley, Colorado 80634. A memorial service for West will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 9, 2022 at Allnutt Macy Chapel, with a reception to follow at the Greeley Country Club, 4500 W 10th St, Greeley, CO 80634.
