Virginia M. Norton of Greeley died Monday, May 23, 2011 at Bonell Good Samaritan Center. She was born on January 4, 1922 to Virgil Thomas and Ethel Roberta (Ashens) Wilks in Aurora, Missouri.
Virginia was reared and educated in Aurora, Missouri where she graduated as Valedictorian of her Class. She married Pastor Warren L. Norton on October 15, 1941 in Springfield, Missouri. She and her husband pastored churches in the Missouri Ozarks and in Arizona from 1941 to 1957. She and Pastor would also help feed, house and offered care to many people. The family moved to Greeley in 1957, and pastored at Calvary Baptist Church for 37 years. They retired in June of 1994. Pastor Norton died on November 8, 1996.
She loved to cook and bake, she was known especially for her lemon meringue pies. She was also known for her three layer birthday cakes.
Virginia is survived by her daughters Lyn Veatch (Delton) of Colorado Springs and Sue Coffey of Portland, Oregon; brother Robert Wilks of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; 4 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband; 4 sisters and 1 brother.
Visitation 5-7 p.m. Monday at Stoddard Funeral Home. Private family services. Interment Sunset Memorial Gardens.
