Tommie attended schools in the Timnath and Windsor areas. He married Audrey “Audra” Helzer. He worked as a heavy equipment operator with Weld County, retiring in 2009.
Tommie enjoyed camping, country dancing and tinkering in his garage. Above all, he loved his family and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Tommie is survived by his wife, Audra Mayes of Broomfield; son, James Mayes and daughter-in-law, Lillian of Broomfield; granddaughter, Sydney Mayes; sister, Gladys Nelson (Dan) of Evans; twin brother, John Mayes of Morrison, Tennessee.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Betty, Dorothy and Donna and two brothers, Robert and Ray.
A visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Monday, October 4, 2019 followed by funeral service at 2:00 p.m. both at Resthaven Funeral Home, 8426 S. Hwy. 287, Fort Collins. Interment Resthaven Memory Gardens, Fort Collins.
