Thecklamoye ( Thecki ) Killian Thompson, 88, died unexpectedly May 20, 2023, at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, CO. She was born February 21, 1935, in Mountain Parks, Oklahoma to Earl W. and Jewell Opal (Finley) Killian.
Thecki graduated from Walters High School, Class of 1952. She attended community colleges, when able, for the love of learning. She married Bill M. Thompson soon after graduating from high school. Bill was drafted soon after they were married and served in the Korean War. After his return, they moved frequently for Bill’s work in the oil fields. They lived in Oklahoma, Montana, and Wyoming, eventually settling in Greeley, CO. Thecki was a long-time member of Christ Community Church.
Thecki worked as a bookkeeper at various Greeley business. Once she retired, she worked part time at Rocky Mountain Waterjet and Laser for her daughter and son-in-law as an administrative assistant.
Thecki was a voracious reader, finishing several books every week throughout her life. She could always be found at the kitchen table working on Crossword and Sudoku puzzles. Thecki enjoyed playing all kinds of card games including Solitaire, Gin Rummy, and Poker. She frequently went to the Bingo Hall with her sister, Billie, and her granddaughters. More than anything Thecki loved being “Granny,” not only to her grandchildren, but to any young person in her life. Her granddaughter lived with her while attending UNC in Greeley, and any students that walked through her door became her grandkids too.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 42 years. She is survived by one brother – Richard (Judy) Tetiva and three sisters – Billie Irene Goetzel, Thelma Harrison, and Maxine Lightner; her daughters Jonni (Doug) Harsha and Gail (Jim) Draper; four grandchildren - Charlotte (Eric) Boyce, Grace (James) Shearer, Balynda Sanchez, Scott (Kim) Draper; seven great grandchildren – Sarah Rodriquez, Austin James (Sara) Sanchez, Abigale Sanchez, James M. Draper, Brittany (Jacob) Thorpe, Chris Draper, Kelsey Draper; and four great, great grandchildren.
A service of remembrance will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 1st at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 3400 28th Street, Greeley CO. A reception will follow immediately afterwards at Stoddard Funeral Home, 3205 W 28th Street, Greeley CO.
