Steve was known for his wit, humor, intelligence, his gentle and strong presence and big kind heart. He was a multi-talented man with many interests. He worked as a technical writer for 30 years and also wrote creative short stories, songs and poetry. He performed in musical theater and improv, and was voted the “third funniest man in northern Colorado” at the Comedy Club in Fort Collins. He loved singing and playing the guitar after a meal with friends and family. He enjoyed being in the mountains and fishing, even when he didn’t catch anything.
For many years Steve was Santa Claus at shopping malls and local events. His merry Ho-Ho-Ho brought a smile to thousands of children and their parents. He was passionate about his family and playing with his grandchildren. Though he was calm and unflappable, Steve was deeply protective of those who could not defend themselves and spoke up to combat any injustice.
Born to Carol Edgar Wolfe and Barbara Oleta Morgan Wolfe in 1949 in Monte Vista, Colorado, Steve grew up in Kansas and moved to Fort Collins in 1959 when the population was 25,000 and there was only one streetlight at Mountain Avenue and a stop sign at Mulberry. For the past 9 years, he and his wife Lorrie have lived in Windsor. They were happily married for 44 years. Their sons, Xak and Aaron and his wife, Colyn, live in Fort Collins. They have four grandchildren.
Steve’s family thanks the team at the Innovage PACE Center in Loveland, especially Dr. Mason Shamis and Steve’s Physical, Occupational, and Speech therapists. They helped him deal with his brain injury and made the last two years of his life joyful and meaningful. Steve will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
A memorial gathering is planned for Steve’s family and friends on Friday, January 5, at 2 pm at Allnutt Funeral Service, 650 West Drake Road in Ft. Collins, CO 80526.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Steve’s memory may be made to the Innovage Helping Hands Fund or to Peace Circles, In care of Allnutt.
