Mrs. Gorman was an honors high school graduate in Omaha. She received both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in Business Education from Colorado State College, now the University of Northern Colorado.
On June 25, 1949, she married Donald A. Gorman in Omaha, Nebraska.
Following her marriage, she and her family lived in Boulder, CO; Tucumcari, NM and Cortez, CO; before moving to Greeley in 1955. She taught at Greeley Central High School in the business education department for 24 years, serving as department head for the last 7 years before her retirement in 1987.
She was an active member and past president of PEO Chapter EC, of BPO DOES Drove 216, of Highland Hills Women’s Golf Association and of Boomerang Links Ladies’ Golf Association. While attending Colorado State College, she was a member of the honorary business fraternity Pi Alpha Omega and the honorary education fraternity Delta Pi Epsilon. She served as treasurer of the Greeley Teachers’ Association for several years and was also involved with the Colorado Education Association and the National Education Association. While at Central, she was nominated for the Colorado Teacher of the Year Award and received an Honorable Mention Certificate from the Colorado Department of Education.
Her volunteer work included being a cub scout den mother for many years and being active in the Maplewood PTA where she also served as secretary for several years. In addition, she served in several ministries at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. She was also involved with knitting prayer shawls and chemo caps. She also knitted several hundred baby caps for newborns at NCMC. She also enjoyed knitting prayer shawls and baptismal shawls for Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. In addition, she was a former member of Friends of a Kid’s Place and as such helped with their fundraising golf tournament for several years. She was an avid reader and enjoyed golf, needlework, traveling, and most especially her children and their families. She was an enthusiastic sports fan and enjoyed especially the Denver Broncos and University of Colorado football games.
Survivors: Three sons – Clayton (Barbara) of Fleming, CO; William (Deborah) of Casselberry, FL; and Donald (Cindy) of Colorado Springs, CO; 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Preceded In Death By: Her husband, Don, her parents, two brothers and one sister.
Services: Memorial services at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church will be held on Monday, January 13, 2020, at 11:00 a.m.
