He was born May 3, 1937, in Greeley, Colorado. He attended the public schools in Greeley including Greeley Central High School.
Ronald entered the Navy in January of 1955. While in the Navy he attended the University of Maryland where he studied and fell in love with electronics. During his time with the Navy, he was a Radar Operator on both the Willy Victor 13 and the Willy Victor 11. During the Korean War, as an AT3, he crewed over 300 flights to Europe while he was stationed in Newfoundland. This experience led him to become an avid pilot after his departure from the Navy.
After his service in the Navy, he continued his education in electronics at CSU in Ft. Collins, Ronald started and was President of Ron’s TV , opening several locations in Greeley, Loveland and Ft. Collins. His businesses spanned the better part of over 30 years and were known as the finest television, appliance and repair shops in Northern Colorado. Later the company would expand and become “Kelsey Sales”.
During this time he also became co-founder of “Casey House Moving” with his lifelong friend Tom Cowan. Many buildings around town can be found that were moved by his company, including several at Centennial Village.
Ronald never slowed down. He and his wife Sheila opened “House of Bargains”, where they sold carpet, padding and other supplies for remodeling homes, businesses and more. He designed, built and maintained the “Kelsey Subdivision” in Ault, Colorado. This was a lifelong project that started with a single piece of land when he was 21 years old and continued until the very end.
Ronald was an avid fisherman, whether he was trolling at Lake Powell or deep sea fishing in Alaska, he loved the smell of the water, the feel of the wind and reminiscing of a simpler time in life. He also loved vacationing all over the country with his family. He took them coast to coast, showing them this beautiful country. Although they sometimes ended up working on the RV on the side of the road, they always enjoyed time together around the campfire at the end of the day.
Ronald is survived by his wife Sheila Kelsey of Greeley; Sister, Janet Atchley of Mena, Arkansas; Brother, Loyal Kelsey of Greeley; two sons, Eric Kelsey of Oswego, New York and Henry Kelsey of Colorado; three daughters, Dana Weaver of Indian Head, Maryland, Rona Vansickle and Sharel Bowers both of Loveland, Colorado; Granddaughters, Jayme Kelsey of Oswego, New York, Nadia Kelsey of Penrose, Colorado, Kayelie Anderson and Marissa Kelsey both of Colorado; Grandsons, Joe and Josh Vansickle both of Loveland Colorado; Many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
