Born to Ignacio and Delores Duran on August 19, 1959, in Greeley, Colorado, Robert lived out his life in the community he loved, where he raised his four children; volunteering for their extra-curricular activities, cherishing his relationships with numerous nieces and nephews, and helped build homes by dedicating his time and talents as a brick mason.
His work ethic was superb, crafting his skillset over many decades as a master mason, Robert was one of the best brick layers in Northern Colorado. He was a true artist with stone, block, and brick. Whether he was working with his older brother, Pete, his business partner, Mike, teaching new workers the trade, or working alongside other masons, he did so with great pride. Robert took his talent as a brick mason and mentored his own son, Rico, to pass down the family trade. Across Colorado, he left his stamp of excellence for homes and buildings. Like the brick he laid, his foundation too, will withstand. Affectionately, his peers called him Bubbas or Uncle Bubbas.
While Robert worked hard and had a stellar work ethic, he played just as hard. Robert enjoyed life to its fullest, taking his family on adventures in the beautiful Rocky Mountains or anywhere outdoors. He appreciated and admired cars of all kinds, and loved to listen to music and, even more, loved to dance. He would not need a dance floor let alone music, because he had a special way to dance to his own beat.
Robert, also known to many as Uncle Bob, Uncle Bobby, or Uncle Bubbas loved his family so much. If he saw you out and about, even from a block away, Uncle Bob would come and give you a big hug and always ask how you were doing. For as big as his family is, he remembered every one of their names. He had a way about him that made you smile and if he could make you laugh, you made his day.
As a father, his hope was to teach discipline, work ethic, integrity, and most of all fun. He did his best to serve as a provider and protector for his children and grandchildren. The memories he made with not only his children and grandchildren, but with family and friends will last our lifetime. The love he gave to all of us will continue through our families and friends, leaving an impact stronger than he could have ever imagined.
As a brother, if you needed him, he would be there. No matter what it was, if you asked for his help, he would be at your door faster than you could hang up the phone. As the youngest of all his siblings, he wanted to do as much for them as they did for him in the younger years. If you wanted advice, he’d offer it, if you wanted to learn, he would teach, if you wanted to just have fun, he’d be right there too!
As a son, he loved his parents with all his heart. He would make sure to visit often, and he would make sure to let them know he loved them. He always seemed to be happiest around his entire family. He loved and respected them dearly.
While it is going to be hard to live this life without Robert, dad, uncle, brother, and friend, his legacy of loving us with all his heart will continue to bring us comfort and peace during this difficult time.
Robert is survived by his children, daughter, Desiray Duran, sons, RJ Duran (Jenna), Rico Duran, (Des), Jereme Duran (Karla) and his twelve grandchildren, brother, Pete Duran, sisters, Shirley Limas, Virginia Garcia, Esther Santillan, and Mary Romero.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ignacio and Delores Duran, brothers, Leo, Julian, and sisters Agnes and Sally Gonzales.
A Celebration of Life for Robert will be Monday April 15th with a service at noon at Upper Room Ministries, 919 18th Ave, Greeley, CO 80631. A reception will follow.
