He was born on March 7, 1938 in Cugir, Romania. He came to the United States in 1950 with his mother, Mary Hertza Lupescu and his brother, Mitchell, receiving his U.S. citizenship in 1954.
Peter earned his Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree from General Motors Institute in Flint, Michigan and his Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Spending his entire career with the Pontiac and Chevrolet divisions of General Motors, he retired as a highly respected supervisory engineer.
Pete met his future wife, Phyllis Rowley, in Dearborn, Michigan and they dated all through their college years. They recently celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary. After raising their family in Troy, Michigan they spent their retirement years in beautiful Prescott, Arizona and recently moved to Greeley, Colorado to be near family.
While a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Troy and Solid Rock Christian Fellowship in Prescott, Pete taught adult Sunday School classes and was in the choir at both churches. He spent many hours studying the Bible, biblical history, and truly loved the Lord.
Pete volunteered at Yavapai Regional Medical Center in Prescott for more than 20 years. He loved hiking and biking and enjoyed photography, frequently creating compilation videos of family events and his many hikes. An avid reader, he often recalled specific details of books he had read years, if not decades, earlier. He enjoyed listening to all kinds of music from classical to pop and was a member of the Prescott Outings Club and the Yavapai Chapter of the Archeological Society. He will be fondly remembered for his dry sense of humor and witty sarcasm. Pete was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Lupescu. He is survived by his wife Phyllis; son Larry (Elise Hegrat) Lupescu; daughter Linda (Lloyd) Arnegard; son Richard (Hayley Mullan) Lupescu; brother Mitchell (Linda) Lupescu; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
A Celebration of Life for Pete is pending until it is safe for family and friends to travel.
Donations in his memory can be made to Solid Rock Christian Fellowship, 148 S. Marina St., Prescott, AZ 86303 or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
