Norma Ackerman, 92, passed away Sunday, February 2, 2020 at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley. She was born October 5, 1927 in Java, South Dakota to Christ and Louisa Rau. She had 5 siblings, Eugene, Viola, Clara, Olivia, and Herbert.
Norma grew up on a farm in Java, South Dakota. She married Eugene Ackerman in 1948. They farmed for 12 years near Artas, South Dakota. In 1960, they moved to Colorado and had 5 children, Greg, Tim, Neil, Kim, and Kent.
Norma was a cake decorator and retired from Safeway in 1984. She loved to bake, play the piano, make quilts, paintings, poetry, wrote a book on her life story, praying and reading the Bible (she was a prayer warrior). She attended Bethel Baptist Church, and she loved the Lord above all. She loved her friends and family. She was a wonderful and caring mother, grandmother, and a friend to all.
Norma is survived by her children, Greg of Selby, South Dakota, Tim (Sandra) of Gettysburg, South Dakota, Kim of Gettysburg, South Dakota, and Kent of Greeley; grandchildren, Matt Ackerman of Fort Collins, Travis Ackerman (Charis) of Wichita, Kansas, Levi Ackerman (Mary) of Gettysburg, South Dakota, Jordon Ackerman of Gettysburg, South Dakota, Brittany Carrier of Milliken, Stephanie March ( Jessie) Oceanside, California, Kayla Johnson (Michael) of Colorado Springs; and great-grandchildren, Hunter Ackerman, Ansley Carrier, Oliver Carrier, and Cohen Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her son Neil.
Visitation will be from 9:30-11:00 a.m. Friday, February 7, 2020 followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 a.m. both at Bethel Baptist Church 2307 17th Ave, Greeley.
