Nancy Lynn Hansberger

Nancy Lynn Hansberger was born on October 30, 1953 in Portland, Oregon. She was the youngest of three daughters born to Dick and Margie Hackett. Her elder sisters were Deborah and Candace (nicknamed Sue). The family eventually settled in Columbus, Ohio. Nancy graduated from Bexley High School in 1971, and later from Mt. Carmel School of Nursing, as a registered nurse. In 1977 she married her high school sweetheart, Michael Hansberger. They soon decided to follow a shared dream, and moved to Colorado, which happened to be Nancy’s mother’s ancestral home. (Her parents retired and relocated there as well.)

Nancy and Michael longed for country life, and eventually bought acreage near Kersey so Nancy could have a big garden and Michael could raise some cattle. Nancy was hired immediately at NCMC, working in both ICU and the Burn Unit for some years, before eventually settling in PACU, where she spent the next 25 years. She was a dedicated, hard-working nurse who came to be admired and respected by her colleagues at the Medical Center. She cared diligently and skillfully for the patients in her care.

She and Michael were blessed with two children – Kate born in 1982, and Zach in 1984. Nancy’s already active life – she had also joined a tennis team and became active with the Cattlewomen’s Association – soon became busier as Kate and Zach got involved in numerous sports and raising their own animals for competition. The family also loved to travel together, going on extended trips which Nancy planned and organized.

Nancy loved hosting parties, holiday gatherings and events for the kids and their friends – which she did often. When her daughter Kate was married in 2013, Nancy organized the reception at the family farm.

She and Michael experienced the joy of being grandparents when their grandson, Ledger was born in August of 2015. Nancy took advantage of every opportunity to babysit.

Nancy’s loving presence will be severely missed by her husband, children and grandchild, her extended family and her many friends.
