Mildred I. Fox of Evans died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, October 31, 2017. She was 93. Granddaughter of Turn-of-the-century homesteaders, she was born at home in Pierce to Charles and Ruth (Ayers) Van Why March 1, 1924. The arc of her life spanned the drought of the twenties, dustbowl of the thirties, and World War of the forties.
Midge lived most of her life in Weld County. She attended school in Pierce and worked war years in California for Solar AirCraft. She lived briefly in Cincinnati, New York and Germany before returning to Pierce in 1958. She worked for Van Why and Sons Farm & Equipment Implement dealership as a Parts Manager until retirement in September 1991.
With her first husband, Norman Giffin of Nunn, she had three children: Janet Muncy, Randall Giffin and Bruce Giffin.
Upon marriage to Joy W. Fox of Evans she became step-mother to Joel Pearl, Jerry Fox and Brenda Breickler. She and Joy enjoyed traveling across the globe and fishing throughout Colorado and Wyoming. A favorite activity was snowmobiling, she was proud to be honored as Snowmobile Family of the Year in 1991.
She is preceded in death by husband Joy Fox, daughter Joel, grandson Colby Giffin and siblings Raymond Van Why, Louise Jennings and Dorothy Shaw. She is survived by her children; sister Flora Mae Rowe; grandchildren: Thomas Muncy, Charles Muncy, Jason Muncy, Drew Giffin, Justin Giffin, Jenai Peterson, Emily Cheney, David Breickler, Kristi Breickler, and Matt Storms and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Saturday, November 11, 2017 followed by funeral service 12:00 p.m. both at Stoddard Funeral Home. Interment Sunset Memorial Gardens.
