Maxine Martha Smith, 93, of Greeley passed away on January 10, 2023. She was born March 8, 1929 to Michael and Martha (Lewandowski) Hauke in Minneapolis, MN. She attended Holy Cross grade school, St. Anthony's High School for girls, and graduated from St. Catherine's College in 1950 with a Bachelor's degree in Nursing. After graduation she worked at Fort Snelling Veteran's Hospital where she took pride in her surgical nursing and care of veterans.
On October 20, 1951, Maxine married Anthony Smith in Minneapolis, MN, where their first six children were born. The family then moved to Greeley in 1963 where three more sons were born. Maxine was actively involved at St. Mary's Church. She was a world traveler, loved playing cards, reading, and going on gambling trips.
She is survived by nine children: Michael Smith, Tom Zalucha, Lynn (Dale) Bindel, Mark (Lynne) Smith, Lori Hopkins, Todd (Kristy) Zalucha, Richard (Pamela) Zalucha, Robert (Heather) Smith, and Shawn (Martha) Smith; 17 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Maxine is preceded in death by her husband, Tony, and grandson, Joseph Hopkins.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 25, 2023 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Stoddard Funeral Home with Recitation of the Rosary starting at 6:00 p.m. Celebration of Mass will occur Thursday, January 26, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Inurnment date at Sunset Memorial Gardens to be determined.
