Marcos S. Torres

Marcos S. Torres of Eaton died Sunday, December 12, 2010 at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley. He was born on May 15, 1930 in Menard, Texas to Marcos and Rita (Sanchez) Torres, Sr. He and his family moved to Weld County when he was 12 years old. He married Helen D. Dominguez on July 15, 1951 in Gilcrest.

Marcos was a sheep shearing crew leader. He owned a contract trucking business and hauled for Kuner Farms and Eaton Livestock. He always had a vision. His goal and dream in life was to own his own farm or ranch. In 1983, he purchased 100 acres of land east of Eaton. He was a very hard worker and a great provider for his family. Marcos was kind, generous and never met a stranger. He had a great sense of humor and loved animals, especially horses. He enjoyed watching western movies.

Marcos was a past member of the Moose Lodge, Gilcrest town board member for 5 years. He was a past member of Sacred Heart Church in Gilcrest and a current member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife Helen Torres of Eaton; daughters Esther (Florencio) Ybaben of Greeley, Alice (Chuck) Trujillo of Farmington, New Mexico and Rosemary Torres of Eaton; son Gilbert Torres of Cheyenne, Wyoming; sisters Romelia Salas of Lafayette and Marguerita Torres of Commerce City; brother Daniel (Gertraud) Torrez of Denver; grandchildren Jason (Ada) Ybaben, Elena (Francisco) Castaneda, Daniel Trujillo, Jennifer Trujillo, Jessica Trujillo, Adrien Torres, Brian Torres, Gilbert (Eliana) Torres, Ryan Aragon, Mark (Hope) Aragon and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers Ysidro and Armando Torres.

Visitation 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Stoddard Funeral Home. Recitation of the Rosary 1 p.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Mass of Christian Burial to follow. Interment Sunset Memorial Gardens.
