LaVerne Arford West, age 94, of Greeley, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on April 14, 2024. She was born on October 13, 1929 in Suisun, California. She was the daughter of Vernon and Dagny Sanderson. LaVerne graduated from Eureka High in 1946 and Santa Rosa College with a nursing degree in 1949.
While working as a nurse in the VA Hospital in Oakland CA she met and married her first husband, Dr. Cloyd Arford. She outlived 3 husbands, Cloyd Arford, Donald Talley and James West. LaVerne was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of all who knew her. She lived a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering strength. LaVerne was known for her gentle spirit and endless capacity for compassion. Her wisdom and guidance were a source of comfort to her family and friends throughout the years.
She had a passion for live and an infectious zest for adventure, always eager to explore new places and experiences. She earned a pilot's license at age 17. She went diving for abalone and surf fishing with her father. She enjoyed skiing, rollerblading, water skiing, sewing and traveling. She had a passion for jewelry and gems and earned a gemologist degree. She also wanted to give to the community by being the Head Start Director in Norristown, PA.
As a devoted matriarch, LaVerne leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. Her memory will be cherished by her five children, Loren (Poppy) Arford, Sandra (Richard) Abbott, Craig (Sue) Arford, Danielle Greenwood, Denisse (Doug) Pike, 10 grandchildren, Sheldon (Christy) Arford, Jesse Arford, Libby Arford, Nicole (John) Rooney, Patrick Abbott, Robert (Andree) Anderson, Tara Hopkins and fiancee Chris Eberle, Briana Thomas, Suzelle (Michael) Slaten, and Brittany (Alex) Bustos and her 10 great-grandchildren, Aamayiah, Blake, Hadley, Haylee, Katelynn, Dajyana, Madelynn, Bexleigh, Caden and Daxton.
The family would like to add a special thanks to two cherished companions, Kay Eichheim and Kristy Troudt.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was predeceased by her brothers, Daniel and Vernon, her sister-in-law, Betty Sanderson and her four legged best friend, Nova.
Her spirit will live on in the memories of all who had the privilege of knowing her. LaVerne will always be remembered by the love she shared, the wisdom she imparted, and the joy she brought into the lives of those around her. May she rest in peace, knowing she was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
A Memorial Service for LaVerne will be held on Sunday, May 5, 2024 at Allnutt Funeral Service - Macy Chapel, in Greeley, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a reception.
