Born February 1944 in Alameda, California to David & Hazel (Starr) Tomlinson, Larry was raised in Platteville, Colorado until his mother’s death in 1959 and then moved to San Leandro, California to live with his father. He graduated from San Leandro High in June 1961. He worked for Sun Roofing after graduation.
Larry moved back to Platteville in March 1970 and worked in the roofing industry. In July 1972, he began working for the Greeley Fire Department where he worked until his retirement as lieutenant in July 1999. For 23 of those years, Larry served as president of the Greeley Firefighters Local 888 and was an advocate for City of Greeley firefighters.
Larry loved to play softball, go camping, watch the Denver Broncos, and spend time with his friends at the Good Time Towne Tavern.
He is survived by his five children Monica (Russ) Kemper, Larry (Danette) Tomlinson, Robert (Chris) Tomlinson, Robin Tomlinson & Colleen Tomlinson; sister Starla (Bob) Chimienti; brothers Bruce Brotemarkle and Tim (Marlene) Brotemarkle; eight grandchildren Beth, Amanda, Alex, Vincent, Allison, Kaitlyn, Aaron & Hunter; five great-grandchildren Ethen, Madelyn, Caiden, Gideon & Noah; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and a multitude of friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Jerry Tomlinson and cousin Dee Starr.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on December 17th at the Greeley Firefighters Local 888 Union Hall at 804 23rd Avenue in Greeley. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Colorado Professional Firefighters Foundation at www.cpff.org.
