She was born on September 23, 1933 in Woody Creek, Colorado to James and Manila (Rogers) Walther. She worked as a certified nursing assistant; and various other jobs; but the job she loved most was being a stay-at-home mom.
Julia married Myron Shoemaker on May 23, 1953, and together they raised four children. Julia and Myron were together for over 60 years before his passing in 2015.
Julia was a caretaker in every sense of the word. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother; she took care of her husband and sister. She made sure everyone felt welcome and had a good meal.
Julia was a very hard worker, but enjoyed life to the fullest. She loved bowling, dancing and traveling. She was known for her wonderful food and pies, which she was particularly proud of and loved to share . She enjoyed taking care of her garden and flowers, and watching the birds on her feeders. Julia was always up for an adventure, she went on a 7-day rafting trip when she was 81 and that was just one of many trips she experienced with her family. In her waning years she enjoyed many activities with Dementia Together.
Julia is survived by her daughters, Manila Wise (Steve); Karen Peratt (Derrick McKinnie), and Roberta Shoemaker; and her son, Dale Shoemaker (Cindy); 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, who all loved her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Manila; her husband, Myron; two sisters and one brother.
