Joe Doll, longtime Weld County resident, passed away Thursday at MeadowView of Greeley. He was 100.
Joseph Doll was born Oct. 16, 1911 to Louis and Rosa (Eckstein) Doll on the family farm near Stringtown, Ill. He farmed and operated several agriculture-related businesses in the Stringtown area, including a sawmill. On Nov. 26, 1936, he married Roseann Ginder. In 1960, Joe and Roseann moved their family to the Greeley area and established Doll’s Egg Ranch which provided eggs to restaurants and grocery stores.
After living half a century on their farm east of Evans, Joe and Roseann moved to MeadowView in August of last year. Joe celebrated his 100th birthday in October, and Joe and Roseann celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary in November. Roseann passed away in February.
Over the years, Joe competed in community horseshoe tournaments and hunted elk. His hobbies included shooting pool, playing cards (especially “Euchre”) and rooting for the Rockies. He wrote a book, “The Colorado Dolls”, detailing the history of his family.
Joe is survived by his six children and their five spouses, Norma Wegher, Ron and Ruth Doll, Urban “Slim” and Sandy Doll, Louie and Nancy Doll, all of Greeley, Kevin Doll and Niki Kessinger of Aurora, and Greg and Elizabeth Doll of Marysville, Kansas; 15 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by a son-in-law, Roland Wegher; a grandson, Jeff Doll; a granddaughter, Janet Lynn Doll, two sisters and one brother.
Friends may visit 5-7 p.m. Sunday followed by Recitation of the Rosary both at Stoddard Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Interment Sunset Memorial Gardens.
