Dr. John “Jack” Breen passed away Monday, February 8, 2016. Jack was born on May 15, 1944 in Troy, NY. He attended La Salle Military Academy then entered Sienna College in Albany, NY where he received his BS. He then attended Georgetown University earning his MD. He spent his internship at Buffalo General Medical Center before being commissioned as a naval officer. Jack served as a General Medical Officer for three years, one of which was upon the USS Power. Upon being honorably discharged as a Lieutenant Commander he returned to Buffalo General Medical Center to complete his residency and fellowship gaining a specialty in infectious diseases.
Dr. Breen’s medical career included practicing medicine in Washington, DC; Buffalo, NY; Jacksonville, FL; Tampa, FL; and Greeley, CO. While in Tampa, FL he served as Chief of the Medical Staff for two years, and while in Greeley, CO he was Chief of Staff for four years. Over the course of his career Jack received numerous awards and recognitions, the most recent being the National Association of Medical Staff Services 2015 Leadership Award, with which he was presented at the 39th Annual Educational Conference & Exhibition in Seattle. His selfless and dedicated care for his patients, friends, and family has had a profound impact on both the medical community, and the Northern Colorado community as a whole.
Jack is survived by his wife Pam of 23 years; a sister Anne Grace; several nieces and nephews; and five children with six grandchildren: his oldest son John (Laurie) of Kansas City, KS, with his three children Anastasia, John Thomas and Nicholas; his son Timothy (Samantha) of Vero Beach, FL, with his two children Aidan and Addison; his daughter Kathryn with her son Jeffrey of Troy, NY; his son Alex attends Creighton University in Omaha, NE, and daughter Mary Elisabeth attends University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Winifred Breen.
A reception followed by a memorial service will take place on Friday, February 12, 2016 at North Colorado Medical Center Auditorium A. The reception will be from 3:00p.m. to 5:00p.m., with the memorial service from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Following the memorial service an Irish Celebration will be held at the Masonic Temple, 829 10th Ave. The memorial service will be streamed live.
