Jean Helen Astell was born March 17, 1929 at Busse Hospital in Sterling, Colorado to Clayton A. Astell and Helen Hamilton Astell.
She attended Franklin Elementary School, Sexton Jr. High and Logan County High School, graduating in 1947. Mrs. Garner attended Park College in Parkville, Missouri, Northeastern Junior College and graduated from Colorado State College of Education, now the University of Northern Colorado. She taught in Jefferson County Colorado at Bear Creek Elementary before her marriage to James L. Robertson on August 10, 1958.
They had two daughters, Nancy Lee and Barbara Jean. After Jim’s retirement from Great Western Sugar Company they travelled the world extensively until his death on December 7, 1998.
She married Arthur B. Garner, formerly of Eaton, Colorado on November 30, 2002. Art died on May 19, 2015.
Mrs. Garner is survived by her daughters and their spouses, Nancy and Tom Atkins of Beaverton, Oregon and Barbara and Mark Cunningham of Clay Center, Kansas. She is also survived by grandchildren, Casey (Bill) Boniface, Jeffrey (Julie) Browne, Katherine (Justin) Wagner, Megan (Erik) Frandsen, Sarah Atkins; great-grandchildren Seth and David Boniface, Jaylee and Jameson Browne, and Jack Erik Frandsen.
Jean was predeceased by her parents Clayton and Helen Astell, husbands Jim Robertson and Art Garner, and an infant great-granddaughter, Johannah Grace Browne.
Memorial Service will be at 11:30 A.M., Saturday, May 12, 2018 at St. Paul’s Congregational Church.
