James “Jim” Capp passed away September 17, in Loveland, Colorado. He was 74 years old. He was born March 10, 1946 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He attended the Colorado School for the Deaf and Blind and graduated in 1967. Following graduation, he worked for Colorado College for over 33 years. Colorado College awarded him for his distinguished service. He retired in 2006. His retirement was covered by Colorado Springs television. He was a member of the Colorado School for the Deaf and Blind Alumni Association.
He was the son of John “Jack” Capp and Lucille E. Capp of Greeley, Colorado, both deceased. Survivors are his sister Judith Capp Edbrey of Loveland, Colorado, his brother John “Jack” Capp of Fort Collins, Colorado, and sister JoAnn Huston of Madisonville, Tennessee. He is also survived by seven nieces and nephews and 14 great-nieces and nephews.
Jim volunteered and taught American Sign Language to students at Colorado College. He loved gathering with Colorado College students. In 1991, for his volunteer work, he received a 1000 Points of Life Award from U.S. President George H.W. Bush. He was an avid Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies fan and attended their games. He was a devout Christian and enjoyed attending church services at Crossroads and Foundations churches in Loveland, Timberline Baptist Church in Manitou Springs, Colorado, and East Boulder Baptist Church in Boulder, Colorado. He was an enthusiastic member of church deaf groups. He loved to read about astronomy, space exploration, and World news. He also loved to paint and craft, work puzzles, and be with friends. He loved seeing his alumni friends and attended their summer picnics and reunions. Jim was an avid collector of stamps, comic books and coins. WWE Wrestling was on the top of his favorite things to watch.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at 4:00 pm at Stoddard Funeral Home. Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at 3:00 pm at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 3400 W. 28th Street, Greeley, Colorado. A time of fellowship will follow in the cemetery park.
