Disease and, surrounded by his children, John Teague, and Beverly Teague Sparkmon, entered his heavenly home.
J.V. Teague lived his 86 years in full, committing himself to his family and offering his gifts and talents generously.
J.V. was born August 23, 1936, in Greensboro, N.C., where he grew up on his family’s dairy farm. After graduating with a degree in dairy manufacturing from North Carolina State, J.V. served in the U.S. Air Force, where he was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska, a state he came to love as much as his childhood home in North Carolina. He and his beloved wife, Ann Britt Teague, were married in June 1958.
After his military service, J.V. returned to North Carolina and to the dairy industry where he started his career in dairy management and serving in various dairy education programs and agricultural support organizations, as well as being an active member of the FarmHouse Fraternity.
J.V. continued his agriculture career when he and Ann moved to Greeley, Colo., in the early 1980s. Never meeting a stranger, J.V. was an active supporter of many nonprofit organizations, including the Rotary Interact Club, Leukemia and Lymphoma Team in Training and the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. He was a regular online attendee of Richmond Hill United Methodist Church. He was proud of the pins he earned for 15 years of perfect attendance at the family church in Greensboro, N.C.
J.V. joined the Rotary Club in Greeley in 1981, where he was known for his positive, appreciative, and generous spirit. He was named a Paul Harris Fellow and was a generous supporter of the W.D. Farr Endowment, being designated a W.D. Farr Fellow in 2018, as well as a supporter of the Poudre Learning Center, a local outdoor classroom for local school children.
In addition to serving with the Rotary Club, J.V. was a leader with the Boy Scouts of America for many years. Among his proudest moments were when his son, John, and later his grandson, Matt, earned their Eagle Scout distinctions.
Indeed, it was his family that provided J.V. his inspiration throughout life. J.V. and Ann instilled a love of the outdoors in their family, making many fun memories throughout the years. J.V. loved traveling the world with his family, taking them to Iceland in 2018 and on a New England Island cruise in 2019. But his favorite places to travel were those places he considered home: North Carolina, Colorado, and Alaska. His greatest joy was sharing his love of those places with friends and family. He and Ann made sure that all the grandchildren had the opportunity to enjoy the slopes in their beloved Colorado. Even after Ann passed away in 2003, J.V. spent most summers touring Alaska in his RV. His adventurous spirit took J.V. to some of the most remote locations, leaving his family to joke they should outfit him with a microchip so they could keep tabs on him!
Upon the death of his wife, Ann, the Teague family established The Ann Britt Teague Memorial Scholarship Fund. J.V. took great pleasure in working on the scholarship selection process for scholarship named in Ann’s honor.
J.V. is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 45 years, Ann Britt Teague, and daughter, Lynn Teague. He is survived by his sister Jean Banks (Burt) and sister-in-law, Rita Britt; daughter, Beverly Sparkmon (Richard), and son, John Teague (Julie); his grandchildren, Stephanie Sparkmon (Todd), Amanda Sparkmon, Kayla Darsey (Jared); Casey Echols, Matt Teague (Kimberly), Anna Grace Harker (Caleb); and great-grandchildren, Lillie Kay Darsey, Charlotte Teague, Silas Harker, and the blessing of another greatgrandchild on the way.
The family would like to thank J.V.’s special friend, Esther Munoz, as well as his caregivers with BrightStar Care of Greeley and Grace Pointe Senior Rehab Center. Their loving care and companionship made it possible for J.V. to realize his dream to stay home in Greeley as he bravely dealt with the challenges of Parkinson’s Disease over his last five years.
