Herbert Louis Schrader, age 76, passed away January 16, 2018 at Tru Hospice in Greeley, Colorado. He was born March 22, 1941, in Grinnell, Iowa. He was the son of Cecil Raymond Schrader, and Lucille Helen Speck. Raised on a farm in Iowa County, he graduated from Hartley-Ladora-Victor High School in 1959 and from the University of Iowa in 1964.
On September 12, 1964, he married Jane Ann Cotter at the First Presbyterian Church in Wapello, Iowa. Their first home was in Sioux City, Iowa where he was employed in sales for Swift & Company. Most of his career was in Credit Management in the meat industry, working for Iowa Beef in Sioux City, American Beef in Omaha, Nebraska, and Monfort in Greeley, Colorado. Prior to moving to Greeley, Herb and Ann owned and operated a Coast to Coast Hardware store in Hartley, Iowa. Herb spent the last 13 years of his career commuting from Greeley as the credit manager for Staodyne in Longmont, Colorado.
Mr. Schrader served in the Army National Guard Reserves for six years during the Vietnam War.
Mr. Schrader was an active member and participant in the following organizations: The First United Methodist Church, Onyx Lodge #419 A.F & A.M. (Hartley, Iowa); lifetime member of the University of Iowa Alumni Association; National Association of Credit Management; Family Motor Coach Association; Denver Carving Club; Hartley Chamber of Commerce; Hartley Ambassador Club. He was a trained volunteer and mentor for the National Ostomy Association.
Herbert and Ann enjoyed many years of travel in their RV, traveling throughout the US and many extended stays in Mexico. He and Ann also enjoyed seeing the culture and history of Europe on river cruises. The last eight years their winter time was spent as snowbirds enjoying Tucson, Arizona.
Herbert was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan, and enjoyed a great trip to watch the Hawkeyes in the 1991 Rose Bowl. Also a Denver Broncos season ticket holder, he enjoyed many winning seasons in person. He enjoyed golfing and fishing, and was proud to share the trip of a lifetime with his sons, flying into the Canadian wilderness to fish at Kesagami Lodge. Wood carving was a hobby he enjoyed, he spent many summers attending the Wood Carvers Rendezvous in Creede, Colorado.
He is survived by his wife Ann, and his sons Brian James Schrader (Head Swimming Coach at the University of Denver) and Kevin Todd Schrader (Treatment Coordinator at Triple Peaks Recovery Center), grandchildren, Dempsey, Zoey, and Finnegan, and his brother Richard, niece Jody Legg, nephew Clint Schrader. Mr. Schrader was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Maxine, and his sister in law, Beverly Marie Schrader.
Memorial Service will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 3, 2018 at First United Methodist Church, 917 10th Ave, Greeley, Colorado 80634.
