Glen Francis Horton

Glen grew up in Roseland, graduating from Roseland High School. He then served in the US Army for two years. After serving, Glen returned to Nebraska, attending Hastings College where he earned his Bachelor’s degree. On July 28, 1962 Glen married Barbara Roy in Campbell, Nebraska. He started his professional career with the JM McDonald company in Hastings, Nebraska and moved with his wife and growing family first to Helena, Montana before relocating to Sheridan, Wyoming and later to Lakewood, Colorado before permanently settling in Greeley. Glen was a District Manager with the JM McDonald company for five years, and worked for the company for a total of 22 years. After his retirement from McDonald’s, Glen and Barbara opened BJ Liquor in Greeley, which they proudly owned for 19 ½ years. They enjoyed traveling after retirement to places like Alaska, Hawaii, Spain, Italy and all four corners of the United States. Glen and Barbara even helped build a Rose Bowl float in Pasadena.

Glen was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where he was a lector and helped with communion on a regular basis. He was also a member of both the Centennial Rotary Club in Greeley and the Jaycees in Sheridan, Wyoming.

Glen enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing and boating with his family. He loved singing, laughing, and his friends. Above all, Glen loved his family and looked forward to the time they spent together.

Glen is survived by his wife, Barbara of Greeley; a daughter, Valerie Sherman (Scott) of Greeley; two sons, Mark Horton (Christa) and Scott Horton (Jennifer) all of Greeley; a sister, Madeline Parr of Hastings, Nebraska; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Horton of Hastings; a brother, Richard Horton (Mary) of Roseland; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, LaVerne Horton and a brother-in-law, Bernard Parr.

Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, November 19, 2015 at Stoddard Funeral Home. Recitation of the Rosary 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 20, 2015 followed by Mass at 11:00 a.m. both at the St. Mary’s Parish Center, 2222 23rd Avenue, Greeley. Interment Sunset Memorial Gardens.
