Gertrude Ziegler

Gertrude Edith Ziegler, 96, went to be with her Lord and Savior, December 13, 2016. She was born on March 23, 1920 to William M. and Mary Margaret (Harder) Zimmerman on March 23, 1920 in Sedgwick County, CO. Gertrude graduated from Sterling High School in 1938.

She married LaVerne C. Ziegler September 6, 1941, and they had three children. They were married 43 years, until his death in 1984.

Gertrude was a loving mother, homemaker, and retired from the Weld County Assessor’s office after 15 ½ years of employment.

She loved the Lord and her family, and was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church (now Cornerstone Community Church), where she served as deacon, helped coordinate a prayer chain, and participated in women’s Bible studies. She loved attending her son’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. Many friends remember her for her faithful participation in senior exercise classes.

Gertrude is survived by a daughter, Carol Ann (Harold) Long, of Ault, sons James (Julie) Ziegler, of Highlands Ranch, and Richard (Linda) Ziegler of Greeley; seven grandchildren, Carrie (Nathan) Vogel, Todd Long, Jennifer (Matt) George, Noah (Rianna) Ziegler, Jonathan Ziegler, Benjamin Ziegler and Josiah (Jennifer) Ziegler; and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters; Arlene Hilsabeck, Marjorie Ramey and Mary Lou Zimmerman, and many nieces and nephews.

Gertrude was proceeded in death by her husband, LaVerne, her parents, one sister, Ada, and four brothers, Elmer, Orville, Willard and Earl.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 22, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., at Stoddard Funeral Home, 3205 W. 28th Street, Greeley. Burial will be Friday, December 23, at 11:00 a.m., at Sunset Memorial Gardens; Funeral Services at 1:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Community Church, 1321 9th Avenue, Greeley. Contributions may be made to Cornerstone Community Church or Gideons International.
