Gary was born on November 20th, 1949 in North Tonawanda, New York to Kenneth DeJohn and Wilma (Olka) DeJohn.
Gary married Marla Chapman on March 5, 1983. They later divorced but remained close friends.
Gary and Marla raised two sons, Gary Jr. and Jeffery, and one daughter, Annie.
Shortly after graduating from UNC, he founded DeJohn Housemoving, Inc. in Greeley, Colorado which served the community and surrounding areas for over 30 years as an extremely specialized profession. He moved any building he could, from small family residences to historic castles. He moved several historical buildings within the community to ensure they could stand strong for future generations to admire. He was featured on Haulin’ House TV Series in 2008 that showcased the extreme weather, narrow roads and many other obstacles he faced while moving structures in Colorado. He was a House-mover extraordinaire. He was well known for his love of fast cars, motorcycles, profane language and sarcasm. You always knew when Gary DeJohn was in the room.
Gary was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth DeJohn; mother, Wilma Olka DeJohn; older brother, Kenneth DeJohn, Jr. and sister, Sandra Sharpe. He is survived by his three children and their families; Jeff, Annie and her children Briana DeJohn-Brown and Finley Helzer; and Gary Jr. and daughter Payton DeJohn.
In his mind, he was a Housemover. But in reality, he was a far better Father, Grandfather, and Friend.
A celebration of his life will be planned after the COVID-19 stay at home order is lifted.
