Evelyn Mae Mauldin, 89, of Greeley and Ault, passed away March 30th, 2022 at North Colorado Medical Center Hospice where she received loving care. Evelyn was born on June 2nd, 1932 to Earl Johnson and Grace (Hollar). They lived in Phippsburg, Colorado, which was known historically for the railroad round house.
Evelyn graduated from Yampa Union High School and went on to Central Business College, where she earned her Associates Degree. Evelyn married Floid E. Witherell and had 2 children, one daughter, Celeste Mauldin and one son, Wayne Mauldin. Evelyn worked at the Denver Public Library. On December 28, 1968, Evelyn married Allen F. Mauldin and they lived in Ault Colorado, while raising Celeste and Wayne. They were well-known for taking numerous children under their wings and "adopting" them. Saturday mornings, after a Highland game, they would often awake to a house full of kids. Allen would count the boys and Evelyn the girls, to see how many pancakes to make.
Evelyn loved people! She had the gift to be able to talk to anyone, anywhere about anything! She was a devout Christian woman. Evelyn and her little dogs: Pippi then Ceirra, have been known as ambassadors of God's love. Most recently, Evelyn lived at Birchwood Manor. Celeste, her daughter cared for her at home, the last five years of her life. Evelyn enjoyed numerous drives in her car. She loved to enjoy the scenery. Evelyn also enjoyed, sunsets, Bible reading, attending their own church live stream, and Dr Charles Stanley on cable. She also watched Wheel of Fortune, and America's Home Videos. Evelyn loved Klondike bars, burgers, pizza and strawberry parfaits. Phone calls and visits from family and friends, throughly made her day! Although she did not contract Covid, being immuno compromised from cancer treatments, was particularly hard on her. Right before her death, she did spend six wonderful days at the Grace Point nursing home rehab and was a fun loving social butterfly again!
Evelyn's love for the Lord led her to acquire a large collection of Christian books for the Ault library. It is still one of the largest Christian collections in Weld County. Beside her faith, family, and friends; Evelyn had a passion for: books, libraries, history, and museums. She also loved the ocean, mountains, rocks, animals, flowers, and nature in all its forms. One of Evelyn's hobbies was making delicious candy over the holidays. When Wayne married his wife, Bobbi, Evelyn made the mints for the wedding. Evelyn was always making candy, and mints for special occasions. She was a vital part of her church. She taught Sunday School and loved working with the church youth group. She was devoted to education and the enrichment of children.
When Wayne, Evelyn’s son wanted to join the local cub scouts, Evelyn started Den 7 and became their Den Mother in the Denver area. Evelyn started Guild Girls for Celeste and the other girls at Grace Baptist Church in Denver. Evelyn encouraged all of her kids to pursue higher education. Her daughter-in-law, Bobbi is currently working on a PhD in Special Education. Evelyn was devoted to her children, and would help them to achieve their goals in life. Evelyn would keep Wayne's meals warm while he worked on cars. Wayne is a tried master tech in ASE automotive semi-truck and school bus with advanced specialist. She encouraged Celeste to follow her dreams to study art in Italy and later to experience the Alaskan wilderness. Evelyn would buy furniture and refinish it to use in her home. Evelyn hand-knitted a special sweater for each family member and a blanket for every baby. In later years, many recipients were blessed with her cotton washcloths. Her support of local scout troops, school sports, church and charity, made Evelyn a staple member of her community; her passing will affect us all.
