Erna Peschel

Erna met her husband, Klaus Peschel, at a Maypole Celebration in 1951, and they married on Sept. 19, 1953. They immigrated to the United States in March 1954, returning to her husband’s sponsor family in Nebraska. Both of their children, Kurt and Heidi, were born in Nebraska. They later moved to Greeley and then to Denver. Erna helped provide for her family as a seamstress working for a variety of sewing factories in the Denver and Greeley areas.

By 1968, their dream of owning a farm in America led them to become U.S. citizens, allowing them to buy a dairy farm outside LaSalle. Erna cared for the animals, large and small, baled hay, gardened, and always had time to host a warm noontime meal for all.

An active member of the T.E.V. Edelweiss Club in Denver since 1960, she enjoyed dancing with the Schuhplattler group, folk dancing, loved German music, and hosted family and friends in her home, serving classic German dishes.

Mrs. Peschel and her husband traveled extensively in their motorhome throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico. They also visited Germany many times throughout the years.

Mrs. Peschel passed away, Thursday, November 8, 2022 at UC Health, Greeley.

Survivors: a son, Kurt Peschel and wife Tammy of LaSalle; a daughter, Heidi Klepper of Greeley; a sister, Anni Reichel of Germany; a sister-in-law, Gudrun Peschel of Germany; five grandsons: Kyle Peschel and wife Lucretia of Greeley, Kevin Klepper and wife Christa of Fort Collins, Keith Klepper of Bennett, Kameron Peschel of LaSalle, Brice May and wife Ashleigh of Tucson, AZ, and eight great grandchildren. She is also survived by many extended family members in Germany.

Preceded in death by: her husband, Klaus Peschel, sister, Herta Pusher, brother, Willy Neumann, and her parents.

Services: Celebration of Life, 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 21st at Stoddard Funeral Home, 3205 W 28th Street, Greeley, CO 80634. A luncheon reception will follow.
