Edwin Nicholas Schommer passed away on Tuesday, July 10, 2018. Ed was born October 11, 1922 to Henry & Techla Schommer in Munich, North Dakota. He was the oldest of nine children. He had seven sisters: Estella, Sister Rosella, Sister Andrine, Sister Andriette, Beth, Fran, Lois and a brother Mark Schommer.
Ed joined the Navy and served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II from 1942-1945. He was an Electrician’s Mate Second Class Petty Officer and was in the Battle of Midway serving on the USS Charette, a destroyer.
On September 8, 1951 he married Lucille Madden in St. Paul, Minnesota. They lived in Hopkins, Minnesota until moving to Greeley, Colorado in 1966. In Hopkins, he helped maintain the Little League fields. He began working at Farm Hand in the 1950s and transferred with the company to Greeley in 1966, retiring from the company after 27 years of service. He was a long time member of St. Mary Catholic Church.
Ed is survived by 5 sons: Dan (Vicky) Schommer, Dave (Jonnie) Schommer and Mike (Rosie) Schommer all of Greeley, Tom (Carolyn) Schommer of Arvada, Colorado and Paul Schommer of Greeley; two daughters: Dianne (Steve) Kline of Cheyenne, Wyoming and Connie (Pat) Crouch of Lincoln, Nebraska, ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lucille and infant son Allan.
Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2018 followed by Recitation of the Rosary both at Stoddard Funeral Home, 3205 West 28th Street, Greeley, Colorado. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 2222 23rd Avenue, Greeley, Colorado. Interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
