Ed was born on August 4, 1923 to Jacob and Elizabeth (Stroman) Fritzler in Timnath, Colorado. He grew up on his family’s farm in Windsor, graduated from Windsor High School and then attended Colorado University. A blind date led him to marry the love of his life, Eileen Lenz on March 18, 1945 in Sharon Springs, Kansas. She died on December 11, 2012. Three months after their marriage, Ed was called to duty. He entered the U.S. Army in June 1945. He attained the rank of Sergeant. After his honorable discharge in October 1946, he returned to farming in Severance and in 1955 they moved to Gilcrest, where they farmed. He and his wife raised their five children and have called Gilcrest their home since.
Ed was active in the community as a member of the Platteville Methodist Church Board, Re-1 School Board, Lions Club, Federal Land Bank Board, Western Mutual Ditch Board and Milliken Early Potato Association Board.
Ed is survived by his four sons and one daughter, Dean (Gail) of Wray, Kenny (Carol) of Vancouver, Washington, Steve (Char) of Platteville, Glen (Pam) of La Salle and Cheryl (Don) Mitchell of Greeley; two sisters, Wilma Hettinger of Craig and Betty Walker of Windsor; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and extended family members, Pi and Peace. He is also survived by many special nieces and nephews.
Ed was preceded into Heaven by his parents, wife and a granddaughter, Kendra Fritzler, daughter to Kenny Fritzler.
Visitation will be held from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 23rd at Stoddard Funeral Home. A Celebration of Ed’s Life will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 24th at Journey Christian Church, 4754 31st Street, Greeley, Colorado. Burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens will take place on Tuesday, May 27 at 11:00 a.m.
