Dwayne Keiss, age 87, passed away April 8th, 2015 at his home in Greeley. He was born September 15th, 1927 to Fred W. & Flossie (Pettit) Keiss in Kearney, Nebraska. On June 4th, 1949, Dwayne married the love of his life, Betty in Greeley. Dwayne was a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather who was hard working and would give the shirt off his back for anyone in need. Dwayne was a thrifty vacation planner which would allow him to take his family on yearly vacations across the western United States. Dwayne and his wife enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas to play the slot machines and play games where they won hundreds of stuff animals that thrilled his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and playing golf, and in his later years, enjoyed spending time at home with his grandchildren, who will all miss him deeply.
Dwayne, who completed 7th grade, began his working career in his early teens working for a nursery in Iowa. Here he learned grafting techniques he used at home to produce beautiful rose bushes and plentiful fruit trees. He worked as a plumber for Stone & Stone and an electrician for Herdman Electric where he used his electrical knowledge for a job at the POW Camp 202 west of Greeley. He began his agricultural career with the Farr Company later called Peak Bean, D & D Bean, and retiring as manager of the Greeley Elevator.
Dwayne is survived by three sons, David (Laurie) Keiss, Marvin Keiss and Larry (Rita) Keiss; grandchildren, Nikki (Camden) Maxon, Shante (Scott) Michael, Zachary Keiss, Rilley Keiss, Brennan Keiss, and Rennie Keiss; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Baldonado, Austin Michael, Owen Michael, Caden Maxon and Harper Maxon.
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty, his parents, two sisters, Mabel Hall and Beula Shone, and one brother, Jerald (Jerry) Keiss.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 15th from 4 – 6 pm at Stoddard Funeral Home in Greeley.
Private services. Interment Sunset Memorial Gardens.
