Dorothy Jane Thompson, 90, of Greeley passed away, January 27, 2016 at Life Care Center of Greeley. Dorothy was born August 1, 1925 in Vanderbilt, Pennsylvania to Andrew “Mac” and Eva (Strickler) Lynn.
She was reared and educated in Connellsville and Vanderbilt areas. She graduated from Vanderbilt High School in 1942. After graduating, she moved to Philadelphia and began working for the Social Security Administration for 2 years. She was then accepted into the nursing program at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. Dorothy received training to become a registered nurse at Johns Hopkins University after graduating from nursing school she worked at an Indian Reservation in Arizona for 6 months. She then moved to Greeley where she worked at the Weld County General Hospital now North Colorado Medical Center as an RN.
Dorothy married Dale Thompson on September 9, 1949 at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Greeley. He passed away April 9, 2007. Dorothy was very active in the Alter Guild at Trinity Episcopal Church and also took communion to those who were not able to come to church.
Dorothy was a member of the Red Hat Society, the Colorado Nurses Association and American Heart Association. She loved to volunteer wherever she could help.
Dorothy was a very giving person all her life whether with her family, patients or friends. She loved working the soil in her vegetable garden and also tending to her house plants.
Dorothy is survived by one daughter Lynn June Thompson (David Buss) of Greeley; one son Henry “Hank” Thompson of Littleton; one brother Robert M. Lynn (Sally) of Connellsville, Pennsylvania; three grandchildren Nicole “Nicki” Elizabeth Hamber of Centennial, Jennifer Lynn Thompson of Denver and Jeffrey Charles Thompson (Lisa) of Highlands Ranch; one great granddaughter and one great grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Dale; three sisters Ruby Jean Emery, Helen Blanche Curtis and Beverly Simon and one brother Lewis Lynn.
Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Trinity Episcopal Church.
