David,

I will miss seeing you on our weekend visits to Greeley.  It was always fun talking with you and catching up on what was going on.  I liked hearing the crazy stories from your job about your interactions with customers, animals and technology.  It made me appreciate the fact that my job lacks that sort of "excitement".  

It was cool how you always wanted to learn more about everything and would read up on a lot of different subjects.  I am usually pretty quick on my feet, but you frequently surprised me with some totally random question or tidbit of knowledge.  It is definitely a gift to have the desire to constantly want to seek more knowledge and learn more about everything like you did.  I envied that and hope that passes down to your kids. 

I never had the chance to tell you, but I did appreciate how you stepped up to take care of Doug and Alyssa.  I am grateful that you were able to give them a more comfortable life and they both grew up into fine young people.  We will all miss you.  I will be thinking of both you and Doug every time I am out at the range.  The time we spent there together was fun and I am sorry there won't be more of that time for all of us.  Until we meet again...

David-
First, I must start by thanking you for stepping up in the place of my absent father, and for taking care of Doug, Mom, and me. Because of you, we were able to have a more comfortable life we would not have had otherwise. You became my father figure, something I had always wanted. Things between us were not always easy, but recently we began mending that relationship. I'm so glad that we did. 

I will always remember our last family camping trip-Yellowstone. I found it comical that you always had to bring everything but the kitchen sink on our camping trips! 

You loved cooking, and always wanted to improve your recipies. You would ask Mom and me if we would change anything about the food. We always said no, because it made no difference to us if you used parsley or basil; you put your heart on the plate. I will miss the smell of fresh sourdough in the house.

You were always telling jokes. Most of them went way over my head. I can hear your laugh and see your smile now...

David, thank you for being my father. I hope you find peace, and continue to guide us on this journey through life.

How can I sum up an 18 year marriage in a few words?  You taught me so much about things I never would have known existed.   You worked your butt off for the family even through pain or sickness if you had to.  You loved to learn and weren't satisfied with the basics, but had to know every detail about everything.  You always had so many projects going you couldn't possibly have finished them, but you had big dreams.   You loved sharing your knowledge whether we wanted to hear it or not and you wanted to be a person everybody could go to for your wisdom and skills.   You drove me crazy snapping a billion pictures if we went anywhere, but always ended up getting so many great ones because of it.   Since being with you, I've had to eat so much crow!  You insisted on the best ingredients for your cooking and taught me that quality matters more than cheap.  You insisted on enjoyment of life rather than sacrificing for a few extra days that may or may not come.  You did what you wanted to do, when you wanted to do it and you'd stand up to God himself if you thought you were right.   You were so outgoing and personable.  You could talk to anybody, anywhere about anything.   You loved to tell jokes even when nobody else got it.   You were so creative, artistic, skilled, smart and talented.   You were a survivor of a very tough upbringing and did so incredibly well with what you were given.   You were a survivor, a victor and just what you said you were from the very first day........ a warrior.   You knew how to push my buttons and drive me to the brink, just as I equally did to you, but through it all you were loyal and dedicated to the core.   Now you have been made completely whole and healed by God and are surrounded by his love and peace for eternity just as you deserve.  I will be with you again before you know it.  We are bonded for eternity and I can't wait to be with you again!   Until that time....... as you always used to say, I love you madly.

The stories.  That’s what I remember most.  Stories about all the crazy customers at work and the attack squirrels or dogs.  You had a great sense of humor about all the interesting people you met on the job.  You were so funny to listen to, sometimes only cracking up yourself.  You were always willing to stand up for others and help anyone in need.

I loved your passion for cooking.  I could get you a cookbook for Christmas and it would keep you entertained for hours.  Or a new piece of cookware that you requested would get you excited to try it out.  I always thought you would make a great chef at a nice Italian restaurant. 

Despite the failure of the adults in your life growing up, I think you did an amazing job of becoming a good man, husband, and father.  A faithful husband for over 18 years and always talking about your wonderful kids to your coworkers.  One time we were over at your house and I felt like we stayed a little too long so I apologized and you replied “that’s okay, you’re family”.  You said it very seriously as we usually joke around.  You truly loved having a family to call your own, including extended family.  You became a family man later in life but I could tell it was your greatest accomplishment.  You taught your kids a lot and gave them some great memories.  I know you will continue to watch over and protect them all.  May you rest in peace David Sachs.


One time we went to Jellystone Campground in Estes Park.  Dad was cooking hot dogs and burgers on the grill.  I watched him cook the food and he taught me how to make things on the grill.   Now I know really good advice on things to do when cooking on a grill.  I am  happy my dad taught me, because when I take my family to Estes Park, I will be able to cook on a grill.   We also loved getting taffy at the Estes Park gift shops and dad worried that we would get cavities.  

I was always interested in guns and wars.  My dad sat me down and taught me what it's really like to own a gun and what chaos it would be to start wars.  He wanted me to learn the history of countries and had me write essays on different countries of my choice from 1800 - 1950 so that I would learn about the  history and about the recoveries of the countries after WWII.   I really enjoyed doing a lot of them.  

Another time we were camping and my dad wanted to fish.  I wasn't sure what fishing was.  My dad taught me what fishing was and he taught me how to fish.  He bought me my first fishing rod.  It was a Lightening McQueen fishing rod.  

One time on Halloween, my dad showed me a Halloween movie.   We had fun and he walked with us trick-or-treating.   It was funny because we were telling Halloween jokes.   


I have many memories.  One is how he liked Star Trek.  He would show me Star Trek episodes and would tell me what is going on in the show.  I remember that my dad would let me hold his knives.  Other times, he would let me hold his guns.  When I was young I would watch him make fire and I would watch the fire for hours.  We would talk about politics on the news and other times debate about religion.   He once bought me a small telescope, because I like astronomy.  Later on, he taught me how to make fire myself.  Since he liked martial arts, when I was young my siblings and I would play fight him and he would always win.  Just this year and last year, he would let me have sips of beer, wine and rum to see how it tasted.   He tried to teach me about all of his guns, but he had so many, I could not keep track of all the facts about them.   Those are some of the memories I have about my father.    He gave me a lot of things that I will remember.   I will miss him.  

My father always wanted whats best for us.  I always knew that deep down.  I never really knew that talent was genetic, but his creative skills must have rubbed off on us somehow.  He gave me two books.  One of them was a chef book with all kinds of dishes you could make with just ramen noodles!  Of course my dad would own something like that.  He loved cooking.  The other book he gave me was a huge drawing book that teaches you the basics of how to improve your drawing skills since I like to draw.  He gave me those books, because he wanted me to learn and get better at drawing, something that peaks my interest and so that I'd know how to make tons of noodle dishes when I'm in college.  I will cherish them forever.  He really was fun to be around.  He was always ready to teach us something new and often asked me to help out with musical note names when he was learning the Indian flute.  He did his best and now he is finally free from all of his pain.  We really will miss our dad.    

When Dad taught me karate, he was always teaching me moves I never learned in class.  Karate was not the only martial art that he taught me in the process.  Soon I started to improve a lot.  There were many things my dad taught me and that is just one of them.  

When my family went camping, Dad loved to bring all these cool gadgets along with us.  These gadgets were cool.  One of the gadgets was a water vest.  It had water in it and you drink out of a tube connected to it.  If Dad never camped with us it would not be fun.  

I loved going out in the backyard and having fires with my dad.  My dad loved to teach me and Sean how to make fires.   When my brother made his first fire in the backyard, my dad was super proud of him.   We always had our fires in an outdoor fire pit.  

One Christmas it was super fun every night to watch all the different Star Wars movies that he loved, because he wanted us to see all of them.   I watched them all and became a big geek over Star Wars.  I loved getting action figures and posters because of the movies my dad showed me.  

One night me and my brother had a Nerf war and my dad came upstairs and joined the Nerf war and we had a lot of fun, because he was really good at it.  He made a 'poom poom!' noise every time he shot it and it was super cool.  

One time we went to Mesa Verde and we drove past a gift shop.   We went in and I got a pop gun, two little pistols, a flashlight and green binoculars.   Me and my dad went in the forest next to the cabin and had a big gun fight with the kids in the cabin across the dirt road and it was fun.  

One time it was snowing and me, Sean and Dad got in a long snowball fight.  We all had our separate team on our own side of the backyard.   It felt like it was two or three hours long.   There are lots of memories and these are just a start.   

Although I never spent much time with you in person, I heard lots of funny and crazy stories. You liked to camp and spend time in the outdoors. You even wanted a camper someday so you could travel all over. I always loved hearing the tales of your various trips.    One of my favorites was the one to Las Vegas where, despite all the mishaps (missed flights, windblown hair, crazy ministers, etc.) you had an awesome time together. I also enjoyed hearing about your apocalyptic disaster planning, living without electricity, stashing supplies, etc.  You were a technical whiz and I appreciate all the help you gave me from afar over the years. You will be missed!! 

I knew I would get the last banter!  I can poke at you and you won’t have a quick and hysterical banter back!  I won’t put it past you to haunt me though!  I remember helpin Denise move to the upstairs apartment and packing all your 1,000s of computer disks!  Then you couldn’t find the ones you needed because they were all out of order!  Lol. I remember bringing Alyssa and Doug home with temporary hair color and you freaked out saying “I’m going to be the only freak in this family!” You were always bright and knew so much about everything( or so you thought!). You will be missed LITTLE  buddy!  Love and hugs!

Hey Dave-while circumstances did not allow us to grow up together and we really didn't get to know each other until we were adults, I will always cherish the times we did have together.  I will miss our long conversations (we could never have short ones) about almost anything.  Some topics were hotly debated or argued but in the end we could always say "I love you."  You were obsessed with Star Trek as much as I am with Snoopy and we even named our computers and networks after their characters.  I will miss your sense of humor, your sarcasm, your unconditional love and of course the free tech support.  I hope you can send some tech vibes down from heaven when my computer goes crazy. Your birthday is tomorrow and I hope you have a grand celebration.  I love you brother and I miss you.  I'll see you again someday-just not yet!
